State College of the Music is the pioneering institution for music education in Assam established in 1979 by Department of Cultural Affairs, Govt of Assam in Guwahati. The college is affiliated to Gauhati University later the college is renamed as Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music, Assam. Since the inception the college has been provided five years Degree courses in Geet, Vadya & Nrittya under traditional Music of Assam and Hindustani systems of Music of India. Presently providing 4 years degree course (NEP) semester system from Gauhati University. It is Academically managed by Gauhati University & Financially managed by Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Assam Basic aim & objective of the college is to the upliftment of Assamese indigenous music forms with the help & knowledge of Indian major music & dance forms.
The Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music started its pioneering journey as the only institute of its kind from 2nd October, 1981. The vision of setting this Govt. College was to study, analyse and develop the 500-year-old living tradition of Sattriya Music and Dance in the light of Indian classical music. Therefore, the vision and mission of our college is to provide Music Education and to prepare students with artistic capabilities on the above-mentioned lines and to popularize indigenous Music and Dance forms of Assam amongst the masses through modernized methods of instruction and restoring music to its rightful place as an integral part of our culture.

Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music, Assam has always been at the forefront in imparting quality music education to its students. This dedication is evident in the remarkable results achieved by our students, as many of them have been recipients of the prestigious Awards like Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Bismillah Khan Award etc. Even our students have been selected in all India level competition and platform. The college has received the best college award from Gauhati University in Youth Festival in year 2021-2022. They have received awards of Assam Sanskritik Mahasangram competition. All the pass out students from our college are now professional artists. Many students got admission in prestigious university like Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, Rabindra Bharati University, Shantiniketan, Tripura University, Mumbai university etc. We are quite confident that the knowledge and experience you gain at Luit Konwar Rudra Barua State College of Music will prepare you to achieve your future academic & professional goals.
